Sainik Schools Society, which is part of the Ministry of Defence, is a school system in India that was founded and is operated by the Sainik Schools Society (MoD). They were created in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, India’s then-Defense Minister, to address the Indian military’s regional and class imbalances, as well as to psychologically and physically prepare students for admittance into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA). Sainik Schools, along with one RIMC and five RMS (Rashtriya Military Schools), provide 25% to 30% of NDA and INA officer cadets. There were 33 Sainik Schools in 2021.In addition, the Ministry of Defense will create 100 new boarding Sainik Schools through a public–private partnership (PPP).
Sainik Schools are run by the Ministry of Defense in collaboration with state governments. The Ministry of Defense provides annual financing as well as serving officers in critical positions such as Principal. Land, infrastructure, and other teaching and administrative personnel are provided by state governments.Sainik Schools follow the “CBSE Plus” curriculum, which includes the CBSE curriculum as well as preparation for the NDA and INA. Admission to Sainik Schools begins in the sixth grade. SC/ST, state residents, and wards of Armed Forces employees and ex-servicemen are all covered by the reservation policy.
